Just like that; it’s Spring!

Just like that.  One day we are snowmobiling back from War Eagle Lake enjoying the beautiful scenery and the next we are sitting on the front deck of the office with the snow melting all around us. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

It’s an amazing time of year.  All over the park creatures are getting spring fever.

Just as we were leaving War Eagle Sunday an Eagle appeared out of now were and circled around these still ice fishing.  I think he was checking for a free meal.    Then as we started to head across the lake to the portage to Mud Turtle Lake, a flock of 7 Raven circled from the point and flew overhead.   They seemed so carefree floating in the breeze.

Thursday driving on Highway #307 I came upon two otter walking side by side down the highway.  They looked so cute… and then they scampered off into the ditch one after the other.  Each night we hear a couple of Owl calling back and forth.   The fox is still crossing the river but you can see he is being cautious..  And I couldn’t believe it!  Last night as I walked home from the office a Goose flew right over my head.  I smiled as I heard guests down at the bonfire area let out their own spring call in response to the  Gooses first Honk!

This morning friends and I enjoyed a picnic breakfast at a wayside near White Lake and photographed these two white Swans swimming with some other early arrivals.march-geese-2012

The skies have been amazing of late..  Venus  was so bright that I had to try and get a picture. mach-13-ski

We have had a wonderful winter.  Amazing guests, nice weather and thanks to the North Whiteshell Conservation guys, working out of the Rennie Office, who did an great job of maintaining the Ski trails here at Inverness Falls; guest were skiing from before Christmas to this last Sunday morning.

Although it was a slow start, due to the diligence of the Snowmobile Groomer Operators, we enjoyed some amazing riding this year.

This time of year I always feel a little sad.  It never feels there has been enough winter.  Not enough crisp walks in the woods; not enough sitting around the fire , not enough ice fishing…just not enough winter.  But that is the beauty of living in Manitoba.  Winter will come again but only after a whole bunch of warm weather fun!
